What is the process of direct billing?

Week 01

7

Patient Provides Insurance Information

Before or during the first visit, the patient provides their insurance provider name, policy number, and member ID. This may include extended health benefits, ICBC claim numbers, or MSP details.

Week 02

Clinic Verifies Coverage

The RMT clinic will check eligibility with the insurer using their online portal or direct contact. Some clinics verify this before the appointment; others do it at the time of service.

Patient Signs Consent Form

Patients are asked to sign a consent form authorizing the clinic to submit claims and receive payment on their behalf. This is often a one-time process.

Week 03

Treatment is Provided

The patient receives their massage therapy session as scheduled.

Week 03

7

Clinic Submits the Claim

After the session, the clinic submits the invoice directly to the insurance provider using an electronic billing system.

Week 03

7

Insurer Processes the Claim

The insurer reviews the submission. If approved, they pay the clinic directly based on the patient’s plan details (e.g., 80% or full coverage).

Week 03

Patient Pays Remaining Balance (if any)

If the plan does not cover 100% of the service, the patient pays the difference (e.g., co-pay or deductible) right after the appointment.

Jean is amazing! I am so thankful for her. She saves my neck, back, and shoulders on the regular. Came in with a migraine today and after seeing her, it’s gone. The needling helped so much with the tension and stiffness. Savior!!!

She made me feel comfortable and relieved so much of the tension in all areas of my body from my pregnancy. I have booked 3 more back to back upcoming sessions and cant wait to return!

Anyone with extended health benefits or MSP supplementary coverage may be eligible for direct billing, depending on their insurance plan and clinic participation.

Can I use direct billing with my extended health benefits plan?

L

Yes, our RMTs can bill directly to insurance companies that offer extended health benefits through employers or private plans.

What happens if my plan doesn’t cover the full cost of the session?

L

If your insurance only covers a percentage of the fee, you’ll pay the remaining balance (also called co-pay or deductible) after the session.

What information do I need to set up direct billing?

L
K
You’ll need your insurance company’s name, your group or policy number, and your member ID. Some insurers may also require a doctor’s referral before approving massage therapy claims.

How should I prepare for a relaxation massage?

L

Arrive a few minutes early, stay hydrated, and eat light beforehand. Think about any areas you want special attention, and share that with your therapist so they can tailor the session to you.

Can I use direct billing if I have multiple insurance plans?

L
